Do you use press wheels during sowing? If so, what pressure do you use and have you seen an impact of different pressure on establishment?

Hi Pearce80, the idea of press wheels is create good seed to soil contact. Press wheels do this pressing soil onto the seed and removing the air pockets. In dry conditions press can be firm as compaction isn’t an issue. In wet conditions two issue can occur 1) too much pressure can cause compaction and small seeds struggle to emerge 2) mud sticks to the press wheel and lifts the seed out of the ground. In wet conditions have the press light or removed. byronjbirch |
