Hi, super keen to understand cost/benefit of different sileage storage solutions available. We want to use sileage to help build our on-farm feed over summer/dry periods, but not sure what the best storage/wrap system will be for us. Any help/direction would be great.
We have used purpose built earth pits, constructed with dozer and maintained with excavator. Pits located in well drained, generally gravel areas. Initially round bales and now square bales are stored in the pit. Plastic over the top of bales and then a thin soil cover on top of plastic. Cheaper than individual wrap and provides longer term storage option.
