Has anyone found a brand of NLIS tag that stays in from application at birth weighing (i.e. 1 day old calf)?

We have tried multiple brands of NLIS tag and cannot get good retention rates. Has anyone got a brand or particular style that stays in?

Only putting them in from 2-3 months of age at marking, however I find good retention rates using Allflex. Personally I've found if tags are applied too close to the end of the ear, then they're much more susceptible to coming out

Hi, some responses from our followers on Facebook:

  • Martin Bonner Most are pretty good ..... placement is critical ....... and the style of fences you have also has a role ..... netting fences are a magnet to tag removal
  • Nikki Mahony yes agreed tag placement is critical esp when ear is so soft at birth.Nikki Mahony yes agreed tag placement is critical esp when ear is so soft at birth.
