Way too many things to consider to give a straight answer on that one sorry. In our part of the world (NNSW/SQLD) we have some melonhole sodic country that is sometimes easier to dry plant rather than wait for all of the paddock to be dry enough. We rarely do more than 10-20% of the intended planting area and nearly always only do it when sub-soil moisture exists and we would only need 1-2" rain to meet that moisture - our heavy soils hold 100-200mm of plant available water when full.
What's the scenario?
